Among the crew is his good friend Doctor Hannibal Lecter. Is there a gay subtext to the relationship between Hannibal and Will?
Mads: I think that to a degree Hannibal doesn’t have a sexuality. Or maybe he does, but he definitely loves Will. On what kind of level, I’m not sure yet. But he finds Will a young man full of opportunities. Like Hannibal, Will is full of empathy, but unlike Hannibal he cannot control it. Hannibal is there to help him find the right path.

Your Hannibal is an elegant and sexy seducer, was this intended?
Mads: It is very difficult to act sexy, I don’t know how to do that. I think that your surroundings will make you scary, or make you sexy, or make you ugly. So it’s not a deliberate choice, but he is a vain man. Of course he loves everything that’s refined. Refined music, refined food, and definitely he would not wear anything dressed down. He lives as if it were your last day.
